Jondo is a photographic series exploring the sentiment of "jondo" within contemporary Calé communities that have inherited the practice of Flamenco. The term jondo refers to a dark, broken style of singing characteristic of early Flamenco performers. This vocal tradition narrated the sorrows and hardships of Calé life during Flamenco’s origins and came to embody a broader way of feeling and understanding existence—imparting a melancholic perspective across those communities.

This body of work was completed between 2013 and 2014 in southern Andalusia—the birthplace of Flamenco—in search of the presence of jondo in contemporary Calé settlements.
